postwar portfolio - robert royston
roof garden - 1961

Bob Royston recognized that for most of the occupants of a high rise building, a roof garden is a visual experience - a kind of painting. Created at about the same time as the roof garden, the oil painting shown at right, shows Royston exploring similar forms and realtionships in a completely abstract medium. The direct connection between the visual arts, especially painting, and landscape design was especially strong during the postwar period.
