mitchell park - 1955
This isometric study sketch depicts Royston's early thinking about the children's play area at Mitchell Park. There are noticeable similarities between this design and the play areas that he designed for the Standard Oil Rod & Gun Club.

The playground featured several auto themed play elements including a freeway, an overpass, and storage garages for a fleet of tot sized pedal cars. The cars were maintained by off duty firemen at a nearby firestation.

The photo below shows the playground under conctruction. The man standing on the "overpass" is Garrett Eckbo.
