The spray pad at Pixie Place was a favorite spot during the hot summer weather. Water play areas were an innovation in playground design during the postwar period and Royston often included them in his playgrounds. The "Polywog Pool" at the Standard Oil Rod & Gun Club and the "Splash Pool" at Mitchell Park are also fine examples of his design thinking in this area. Because of the very limited budget, the water play feature at Pixie Place was quite simple, consisting of a concrete pad, a drain and a single sprinkler head.
